Village House Expands into Seminole County

On April 21st, Village House opened a new safe haven and activity center in Sanford. As with all Village Houses, this new home was christened with an authentic African name, “Omotunde”, which means, “The child comes again”.
This new home on Mellonville Street on Sanford’s east side is the second home operated by Village House in Seminole County. Funded through a grant from the Heart of Florida United Way, these homes are just the first of many more to follow.
In the Village House Program, neighborhood residents volunteer their homes as safe havens and activity centers for area youth. It is designed to: provide educational, social, recreational and other positive alternative activities to children and their families; refer residents to community based organizations; educate parents and their children in drug awareness, life skills, fire safety, home security, first aid, and abuse; encourage parents to provide a safe environment for their children; and provide emergency assistance to children in need.
