Older Adult Programs
To Your Health! Program
To Your Health! is as an innovative education program
created by the Center for Drug-Free Living in 2001 to help older adults become aware
of the risks and dangers associated with combining medications and alcohol products.
The program focuses on practical solutions and wise choices in the use of medication
and other substances. Professional staff provide educational sessions throughout
the community in sites convenient to professionals and older adult participants.
Participants learn to:
- be aware of the potential dangers associated with mixing medications;
- listen to their bodies and understand the impact of medications on their bodies;
- ask questions of pharmacists and other health professionals relating to the effects
of combining prescriptions with other products and other medications;
- examine product labels;
- recognize the dangers and potential side effects of combining alcohol with prescription
and over-the-counter medications;
- recognize the dangers associated with alcohol use, particularly the effects it has
on the human body and mind;
- empower themselves to manage their own health.
