The Florida Brief Intervention and Treatment for Elders (BRITE) Program, is an innovative, multi-site program throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties designed to identify and serve adults ages 55 and older with problems related to: alcohol, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, and illicit drug use. BRITE Services include screening, brief interventions, brief treatment and referral. Services can be conducted in medical and health care settings, older adults’ homes, senior centers, and assisted living facilities.
The program is based on the federal model of Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment (SBIRT)
BRITE services include screening, brief interventions, brief treatment, & referral. Services can be conducted in medical and health care settings, older adults' homes, senior centers, assisted living facilities, and any other setting preferred by the client.
Brief Intervention: Provides education on the effects of alcohol on older adults, interactions of alcohol and medications, consequences of at-risk or problem drinking, reasons to quit or cut down on drinking, handling risky situations, and managing prescription and over-the-counter medications.
Brief Treatment: Helps individuals address immediate issues around substance use or abuse, such as coping with depression and negative emotions, dealing with loneliness, handling social pressure, coping with anger and frustration, coping with anxiety and tension, coping with urges, and how to prevent relapse.
These services are currently available in Orange , Seminole and Osceola Counties .
